GROUP CONVENOR – Linda Johnstone

This group normally meets on the 3rd Monday of the month at 2.00 pm in the Assembly Room, St Austell Arts Centre.

The group is very active and many members have attended outdoor plays over the summer, including Shakespeare at Wheal Martyn. In 2023 we also went to the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, to see the ‘Buddy Holly’ musical, and to the Hall for Cornwall to see ‘The Mousetrap’.

Other successful events were the Murder Mystery evening on board the Bodmin Wenford train, and a trip to the Minack to see ‘Captain Correlli’s Mandolin’. Some members have attended events at the Keay Theatre, including Tribute Acts to Kate Bush and Peter Kay. Arts Centre events and films at the White River Cinema added to the options – so you can see we like variety!!

An annual ‘celebration’ meal for Theatre Group members is usually organised for early in
the year too.

At the monthly meetings, we decide which events appeal to sufficient numbers of members, and usually organise one event per month – but we do need to look ahead and plan. So far for 2024 we’re planning to go the see ‘Hells’ Bells’ in February; ‘Guys and Dolls’ at the Keay Theatre in April and ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ at the Theatre Royal, Plymouth, in August, ….there will be more !!!

Enjoy the performances and the company of the other u3a Theatre Group members. We
like to have fun and make friends along the way!
