The walks are usually on the 2nd Wednesday in the month and commence at 10am. They will vary in length and degree of difficulty. Information about the walk, duration, refreshments and facilities will come out approximately 10 days in advance of each walk.

Wednesday 19th March 2025.

St Stephen and Tregargus Trail

March walk will be St Stephen and Tregargus trail. This is entering from the top end of the village, and thus avoiding the mud encountered when we tried it last. The walk allows you to view historic buildings from previous China Clay working, set in a wooded valley with streams and waterfalls. Going before the trees are in leaf allows for a better view of the water features.

The walk will start in the Community Centre Car Park at 10am, Fore Street, PL26 7NN. We will walk away from the car park towards Nanpean, on paths and footpath towards the entrance to the trail. There is a short section on the road in single file. We will then complete a loop of the trail which will allow you to view all the structures. This is mostly made up paths, some sloping and uneven and a few areas where it can be muddy – but only about 100m.

You then have an option to go straight back, but I will continue back through Step-aside and Hilltop, which allows far reaching views of current workings and areas of re-wilding, through Treneague and back via a footpath to the car park. There is an opportunity to stop for coffee or lunch in Cafe Pause if you wish.

The loop around Tregargus and back would take about 11/2 – 2 hours. The extra loop adds an hour and should get us back between 12.30 and 1.

Details of some of our previous walks are HERE

We are happy for you to come to a Coffee Morning or one main Monthly Meeting and to attend one individual group (with the exception of groups that require pre-booking and ticket purchases) before deciding whether to join St Austell u3a.

Please always contact a group convenor to ensure the session is going ahead
